Jack Spalding Schroder, Jr.

Jack Schroder is currently Senior Counsel in the firm's Health Care Regulatory Group, having been a partner for over 25 years.   He continues to concentrate his practice in all aspects of health care law, including regulatory compliance, credentialing/peer review, defense of government enforcement actions, certificate of need, and legislative advocacy.

He has served as general counsel to the Georgia Hospital Association for almost 30 years, and represents numerous hospitals and health-related organizations in the Southeast.  Jack has drafted a significant number of state health care statutes, including one of the first "no code" laws in the country and one of its most progressive peer review statutes.  In the government enforcement area, he has served as statewide coordinator in the defense of three false billing investigations initiated by the Department of Justice.  He has also advised hospitals and medical staffs in numerous peer review proceedings and lawsuits, served as a hearing officer in peer review appeal hearings, and provided counsel on credentialing matters to health care systems from New Hampshire to Florida.  He performed the first corporate restructuring of a public hospital in Georgia, more than 15 additional restructurings, as well as Georgia's first two privatizations of publicly-owned hospitals.

Jack is the author of Credentialing Strategies for a Changing Environment, part of BNA's Health Law & Business Series, one of the nation's first books specializing in health care credentialing and peer review.  He is a frequent lecturer on programs sponsored by the American Health Lawyers Association, the American Bar Association, the Georgia Hospital Association, and other organizations.  Jack currently serves as Vice-Chair of the annual Hospital & Health Systems Law Institute, the nation's premier hospital law seminar sponsored by the American Health Lawyers Association.  He is listed in The Best Lawyers in America for his health care expertise, and profiled in Who's Who in America and Who's Who in American Law.

Mr. Schroder received his J.D. degree in 1973 from the University of Georgia School of Law and his A.B. degree in 1970 from Emory University.  Jack is past President of the Georgia Academy of Health Care Attorneys, the Atlanta Bar Association, the Atlanta Bar Foundation, and Research Atlanta.  He also recently served on the Board of Directors of the American Health Lawyers Association.
