JOHN L. MILLER, Ph.D

Dr. Miller has over 30 years experience in the healthcare industry as a senior level executive and external consultant working with HMOs, hospitals and physicians. He is now president of the Crossroads Institute of Corporate Coaching, an organization dedicated to improving the performance of managers and executives through business coaching. He works with leaders in many industries to include healthcare, high technology, financial services, and aerospace. Many of his clients are part of the Fortune 100.

As an executive in healthcare, Dr. Miller was one of the original founders of Health Net where he served as the senior vice president in charge of marketing and provider relations. After achieving record membership and network growth, he left Health Net and formed a consulting firm where he worked with providers as they expanded their share of the managed care market. Dr. Miller was also the lead consultant in forming PruNet, a national PPO established by Prudential Insurance Company. Later he formed and served as CEO of Selectcare Management Company, one of the largest and most successful PPOs in California. Selectcare was sold to a public company. In the early 1990s Dr. Miller became President of the Physician Development Division of UniHealth America, a multi-billion dollar healthcare system located in Southern California. Among other responsibilities, he was responsible for managing a network of over 3000 physicians which oversaw the care of 500,000 managed care patients. After leaving UniHealth, Dr. Miller became CEO of MedFirst Healthcare, a physician practice management company that provided management and managed care services to physician practices located in Chicago, Miami and New York. MedFirst Healthcare was a portfolio company of a Goldman Sachs. On a national level, Dr. Miller has worked as a high level consultant with the board and senior executives of such notable institutions as The Mayo Clinic, The Harvard University Teaching Hospitals, and Columbia Healthcare.

Dr. Miller holds two master’s degrees, one in Business Administration and one in Organization Development. He also holds a Ph.D. in Human and Organization Behavior and serves as an Adjunct Professor of business at several local universities. He is an author of many articles on business and strategy issues in healthcare, and a frequent speaker on physician-oriented issues at national healthcare conferences.
