Center for HealthCare Governance - Speaker
Scott A. Mason, DPA, FACHE
Dr. Mason is Managing Partner of SKM Enterprises, LLC. He has been part of thought leadership in the healthcare industry for over 25 years. His focus has evolved from strategy to healthcare informatics and technology to human capital and leadership development. Major engagements relate to achieving strategic alignment, integrated management and governance structures, enterprise strategic planning, clinical service lines, and physician integration.
During his years of change management, Dr. Mason has provided strategic advice to over 350 hospital and health system clients in 38 states, including several perennial top 100 hospitals. Scott’s approach to consulting is to become a trusted member of high performance management teams. A unique trait of his practice is that most of his client work has involved repeat clients. He has managed several highly public crisis turnaround situations, becoming Interim President for one large regional health system that demanded an immediate turnaround solution. His facilitation has included mergers, acquisitions and other collaborative arrangements valued at well over $20 billion, where he has been the lead advisor in the formation of over 30 integrated delivery systems (IDSs).
Dr. Mason is able to leverage his talents with literally dozens of seasoned consultants who honored him by electing him Chairman of the American Association of Healthcare Consultants (1997). The SKM business model involves collaborative agreements with a number of other corporate partners with whom Scott has worked for many years, including: Stroudwater Associates, Root Learning, Starizon, Shattuck Hammond Partners, and One Page Plan.
Dr. Mason is known for his action orientation. Strategy work only succeeds if the results can be implemented and provide competitive advantage. He brings an eclectic background to his consulting. From a technology perspective, Scott has served at several start-up companies both as a board member and Acting CEO, focused on both electronic medical records for peri-operative services (eko systems) and a personal health record company (Laxor, LLC). Dr. Mason also headed up the consulting arm of APACHE Medical Systems as Executive Vice President (now part of Cerner.) Dr. Mason became part of APACHE when he sold his consulting firm, National Health Advisors (founded 1981) in 1997. Earlier in his career, Dr. Mason was privileged to work at such organizations as Booz, Allen & Hamilton, the American Hospital Association and one of the first IDNs in the country-- Samaritan Health Service (now Banner Health).
Scott is a board certified hospital administrator and frequent national speaker on such topics as strategic planning, clinical service lines and consumerism in the knowledge era.
