Fredric J. Entin

Fredric J. Entin is an attorney with Polsinelli Shalton Flanigan Suelthaus PC. As a nationally known health care attorney, Mr. Entin has advocated on behalf of health care clients before various regulatory agencies and in the courts. He has extensive experience and success representing hospitals, academic medical centers, physicians and medical groups and health care trade associations on a variety of regulatory and industry issues, including Medicare and Medicaid compliance, exempt tax and governance, antitrust, behavioral health, medical staff and clinical information and technology.

In a career that spans 35 years, Mr. Entin has served as senior vice president and general counsel for the American Hospital Association, where he was engaged in AHA's legal advocacy for approximately 5,000 members; he also spent nearly a decade as a partner in two Chicago law firms where he concentrated on litigation for commercial and health care clients. In addition, Mr. Entin served as director of legal affairs at the University of Chicago Hospitals and Clinics for six years.

Mr. Entin frequently addresses professional groups throughout the country and has authored a number of articles for medical and legal publications. His written works include: “Preparation of the Medical Malpractice Defense Before Trial”, Defense of Medical Malpractice, Illinois Institute for Continuing Legal Education (1987); Ambulatory Care Facilities, Medical and Hospital Negligence, Chapter 21, Callaghan & Company (1988); and “Hospital Collaboration: The Need for an Appropriate Antitrust Policy,” Wake Forest Law Review (1994).  Recently he has spoken to health care provider groups about contracting for health information technology, governance and regulatory compliance.

Mr. Entin is past president of the Illinois Association of Hospital Attorneys, a former member of the Board of Directors of the American Health Lawyers Association and he currently serves on the advisory board of BNA's Health Law Reporter. He is an active member of the American Bar Association and the American Society of Association Executives.

Mr. Entin graduated from DePaul University (J.D., 1972) and the University of Wisconsin (B.A., 1968). He was admitted to the Illinois Bar in 1972, is admitted to practice before the U.S. District Court for the Northern District of Illinois (Eastern Division), and is a member of the Federal Trial Bar.
