Martin Buser

Martin B. Buser is a founding partner of Hospitalist management Resources, a healthcare consulting firm based in San Diego, California which assists hospitals and medical groups with the development of hospitalist programs. Mr. Buser is also a founder of Cove Health Care, an Inpatient and Post Acute Care Physician Management Company where he served as Group President during the company's first two years of operation. Prior to Cove Health Care, Mr. Buser was Executive Vice President, Health Services, responsible for the operation of ScrippsHealth's ambulatory, acute, sub-acute, skilled nursing, home health and related healthcare services. Mr. Buser came to Scripps Memorial Hospital - La Jolla in 1978 as Vice President for Professional and Support Services. He became Associate Administrator in 1979, and Senior Vice President/Administrator in 1983. In 1992, Mr. Buser was named Executive Vice President and Chief Operating Officer of Scripps Memorial Hospitals, and in 1993 was named President/CEO of Scripps Hospitals Division of ScrippsHealth. During Mr. Buser's 19-year tenure with Scripps, the organization grew from a two hospital organization to an 8 campus health care system with revenues of almost $700 million. Prior to joining Scripps, he was Associate Director of Memorial Hospital of Glendale, California, following his residency at Santa Barbara Cottage Hospital, Santa Barbara, California.

Mr. Buser received his Bachelor's degree, cum laude, in economics from the University of California, Santa Barbara, and completed a Master's degree in public health with an emphasis in hospital administration, from the University of California, Los Angeles. He is on the Scripps/UCSD Whittier Institute of Diabetes Board of Directors, Chairman of the Board of the American Heart Association, Greater San Diego Division, and is a fellow of the American College of Health Care Executives. He is a founding board member in Digital Medical Registrar, a national credentialing verification organization and is a member of the National Advisory Board of Medical Data International, a division of IHS. He has served as a member of the California Healthcare Association Executive Committee and Board of Trustees, Chairman of the Hospital Council for San Diego and Imperial Counties Board of Directors, Chairman of the California Hospitals PAC Board, on the consultant faculty of the San Diego State University Graduate School of Public Health, and on the Board of the La Jolla YMCA. Additionally, he was named "Emerging Leader" by Hospital Forum magazine and Jay Cee of the Year in Glendale.

Mr. Buser is a frequent keynote speaker and lecturer at national healthcare forums on managed care, hospitalist medicine and hospital organizational issues. He has been a speaker at corporate training programs for large healthcare vendors including Seimens, BristolMeyersSquibb, Stryer, Johnson & Johnson and Merck.
