Executive Compensation Practices Under Increased Scrutiny

Center Resources

As an affiliate of the American Hospital Assocation, the Center for Healthcare Governance periodically receives advisories sent to the field regarding health care trends and issues likely to affect hospitals and communities.

AHA recently distributed a Media Advisory to all AHA member CEOs on the topic of executive compensation. This advisory will be of particular interest to Center Members.

Recent attention in the media has refocused the public's attention on executive compensation. With this renewed interest, the American Hospital Association recently joined efforts with the American College of Healthcare Executives to help hospitals answer questions that may arise in their communities regarding the practices for setting executive compensation and the unique responsibilities of the hospital CEO.

This advisory is the first in a series of resources regarding executive compensation that will be made available in the months ahead. It includes some general themes and messages to consider when talking with reporters, and serves as a reminder of the importance of being aware and up-to-date on your policies and procedures around these issues of public interest.

As more information around executive compensation becomes public through the IRS Form 990, we encourage you and your team to be familiar with your organization's policies and procedures and to be prepared to speak about executive compensation with the media, the public and the patients and communities you serve. To read the advisory in full, visit the Center Web site to log in*; then return to this page and click here.

*Please note: you must be logged in as a Center Member to view the Advisory.
