The American Hospital Association's (AHA) Board of Trustees recently announced its chair-elect designate. The Center is happy to congratulate Richard P. de Filippi—a member of the Center's Board of Managers and National Board of Advisors, and a trustee and former chairman of the board of Center Member Cambridge Health Alliance—on his nomination. De Filippi will assume the AHA chairmanship in 2010.
De Filippi will become the chairman-elect on Jan. 1. In this position, he will preside over the AHA's strategic policy planning committee, which identifies the association's priority initiatives. He will succeed the current chairman-elect, Thomas M. Priselac, who will become the chairman of the board. Priselac is president and chief executive officer of Cedars-Sinai Medical Center in Los Angeles.
De Filippi is a member of both the Center's Board of Managers and National Board of Advisors. He also serves on the AHA board, is a member of its Executive Committee and acts as the board's liaison to the AHA's Committee on Governance, on which he served for three years. He also served on the AHA's New England Regional Policy Board. De Filippi is currently a member and former chair of the Trustee Advisory Council of the Massachusetts Hospital Association (MHA), and a former member of the MHA Board of Trustees.
Please join us in congratulating Mr. de Filippi and wishing him success!

Sharpening Your Governance Skills
September 14-17, 2008
The InterContinental Boston - Boston, MA
Overview | Conference Brochure

The Center for Healthcare Governance presents its fall Symposium on governing and leading health care organizations. In this three-day program at the InterContinental Boston, trustees and executive leadership will gain insights into the trends that are dictating reform and learn strategies and tools for navigating this increasingly complex environment.
By participating, your board will:
- gain valuable insights on how to get the most from your leadership teams, make strategic decisions more effectively, and build the consensus that successful implementation requires.
- enhance its ability to promote quality improvement, assess performance risk, and inspire organizational excellence.
- acquire new knowledge and skills to help fulfill the intent of governance reform - the development of boards that are more informed about both the industry and their organizations, more attuned to their overall governance responsibilities, and more prepared to engage in active and appropriate oversight.
- learn to ask the tough questions, obtain the information you need to govern effectively, and hold your board and your organization accountable for improved performance.
