Engaging Physicians to Improve Quality and Patient Safety: What Governing Boards Need to Know features an interview with Health Law Attorney Alice G. Gosfield who discusses how to build common cause among hospitals and physicians for improving health care quality and safety. The program discusses why engaging physicians is critical and challenging and reviews obstacles to hospital/physician partnerships and how to overcome them.  It defines a variety of roles for physician participation in improving quality and patient safety and reviews successful improvement efforts and lessons learned from them. The program also provides tips for effective hospital/physician partnerships.

This program can be used by boards and physician leaders and includes:

  • a 19-minute interview with Alice Gosfield;
  • a set of Power Point slides, including discussion questions, that accompanies the interview;
  • a facilitation guide that describes program components and provides suggestions for how to use them; and
  • an evaluation form that solicits feedback on the program and allows participants to indicate additional information they would like to receive about the program topic.
