Lawrence Prybil Ph.D. Vice-Chairman of the Sisters of Charity Health System’s Board of Directors, Compensation Committee Chair

Lawrence Prybil received his PhD in hospital and health services administration from The University of Iowa College of Medicine in 1970.

Larry was at Medical College of Virginia for ten years, where he chaired the Department of Health Administration, held the Arthur Glasgow Chair in Hospital Administration, and served as Deputy Assistant Provost for the health sciences campus.

In 1980, he moved to the private sector, serving for five years as Corporate Vice President for the Sisters of Mercy Health Corporation based in Farmington Hills, Michigan and, from 1985 to 1999, senior leadership roles with the Daughters of Charity Health System, including ten years as Chief Executive Officer for a six-state division.

In 1999, Larry returned to The University of Iowa to assist in launching the University’s new College of Public Health, serving for six years as Associate Dean and now as Senior Advisor to the Dean.

Over the years, Larry Prybil has served on the governing boards of hospitals, multi-unit healthcare systems, state hospital associations, and the American Hospital Association.  He presently is Vice-Chairman of the Sisters of Charity Health System’s Board of Directors and chairs its Compensation Committee. He has authored or co-authored many publications on governance, and recently completed a study of governing boards in high-performing hospitals.
